The routine measurement methods which are currently used can be employed entirely to tubes coated with the potent anticoagulant Hirudin without any adaptation. At present in blood analysis laboratories two standard machines, one for clinico-chemical and one for haematological parameters determination are used. All standard laboratories are able to immediately utilize UBT without any change of equipment by the following simple procedure:
- UBT-blood sample is ready for examination of the blood count and Haemoglobin.
- After centrifugation of UBT-blood, determination of all clinico-chemical parameters by taking two samples for both, enzyme/substrate measurement as well as the measurement of electrolyte.
Outlook:
With the method offered by Artes Biotechnology GmbH not only clinico-chemical and hematological values can be determined from a single blood collection tube, but also important additional parameters such as:
- Determination of the serum parameters (e.g. alkaline phosphatase, amylase, cholinesterase, creatine kinase, GOT, GPT, [gamma]-GT, HBDH, lactate, LDH, lipase, albumin, bilirubin, calcium, chloride, cholesterol, creatinine, iron, total protein, glucose, uric acid, urea, potassium, magnesium, sodium, triglycerides, C-reactive protein, immunoglobulins, transferrin, anti-streptolysin-O, rheumatoid factors, C3, C4, apolipoprotein, drug level).
- Examination of the blood count: partial blood count (automated) and differential blood count (manual and automated).
- Determination of the blood group, antibody screening tests, Coombs tests and cross-matching erythrocytes concentrates.
- Immunophenotyping of normal and malign mononuclear cells in blood and bone marrow.
